Classic black & white tones with extra contrast, perfect for landscapes. Ilford Ortho Plus is a fine grain, high-resolution black & white film with a difference. It’s orthochromatic, which means it’s sensitive to blue and green light, but not red, so reds and oranges appear darker in your images, giving you bold contrast and rich tones, especially in landscapes. One of the perks of this film is that it can be safely handled under a deep red safelight* in the darkroom, which makes loading and inspection easier compared to standard panchromatic films.
Originally designed as a copy film for negatives, Ortho 80 Plus has found its place with photographers looking for fine detail and sharp results. It’s a great choice for scenic shots, architecture, and any subject where you want texture and crisp definitaion to shine.
This 35mm version is DX-coded for ISO 80 when shooting in daylight or natural light. If you're working under tungsten lighting, it’s best to shoot at ISO 40 or adjust your exposure by one stop. Either way, you can develop it using standard black & white processing methods, development times can be found inside the film box or on Ilford’s technical data sheet.
*Please avoid using an amber safelight, as it can cause fogging.
