CineStill Xpro C-41 50D Daylight Colour Negative 120 Roll Film

The sharpest, finest grain colour negative film available!

CineStill 50Daylight is an EI 50/18° speed daylight-balanced (5500K) colour negative film stock, perfect for still photography. It's based on the original motion picture emulsion and is prepared for standard photo lab processing or C-41 development at home. You can also process it in Cs2 chemistry for low-contrast motion picture negatives. This film is great for shooting in bright light at wide apertures, delivering high-resolution, low-grain images.

Unmatched exposure latitude

The exposure range of this film surpasses digital and most other films. With 50D, you can get excellent results by rating it anywhere between ISO 12-100 without needing push processing. You'll notice almost no grain, regardless of how you meter, but the colour, contrast, shadow detail, and highlight rendering will vary depending on the ISO. Shooting at lower ISO will give warmer images with more halation in the highlights.

Improved longevity

Thanks to a new manufacturing process, 50D now has an extended shelf life with fewer noticeable artifacts after expiry. The emulsion is optimised for hybrid workflows, making it ideal for scanning, and offers a complimentary contrast curve for optical printing on RA-4 paper when processed in C-41 chemistry.

Expiration

The new boxed CineStill film has a longer shelf life, with fewer artifacts after expiry. However, for the best results, store the film in the fridge and use it within 6 months of purchase. Exposed film should be processed promptly in C-41 chemistry to maintain colour fidelity and image quality. Current productions have a two-year expiry date on the box. If you have older versions without a date, it may be fogged due to age.

Processing options

This emulsion was originally designed for ECN-2 motion picture processing but can also be processed with the CineStill Cs2 "Cine Simplified" kit, which produces a lower contrast negative. Although there is no remjet layer to exhaust the chemicals, C-41 processing gives greater density and gamma compared to ECN-2, making it better suited for still photography. Tests show positive results when processed in C-41 chemistry, and while long-term archival stability has not been tested beyond 9 years, it should fall between Kodachrome and typical C-41 films. Any defective rolls will be replaced, but our liability is limited to replacing the original film purchased.

Storage and Handling

Load and unload the film in low light. Store unexposed film in a refrigerator at 13°C or below, in its original packaging. To prevent moisture condensation, allow refrigerated film to reach room temperature before opening. Process exposed film as soon as possible and store processed film in a cool, dry place, protected from strong light.
