CineStill 800Tungsten is a one-of-a-kind colour film designed for still photographers. This 800 ISO tungsten-balanced colour negative film is based on the same high-quality motion picture technology used by leading cinematographers worldwide. It’s perfect for challenging low light, tungsten-lit scenes, but is flexible enough to work in various lighting conditions, giving you plenty of creative options.
Our improved manufacturing process now extends the shelf life of 800T, with fewer noticeable artifacts after the film has expired. This advanced motion picture emulsion is ideal for a hybrid workflow, especially for scanning, and can be safely processed in standard C-41 lab machines or with Cs41 processing at home. You can also process it in Cs2 chemistry to create low-contrast motion picture negatives. When processed in C-41 chemistry, it produces a contrast curve suited for optical printing on RA-4 paper. Treat this as a high-speed 800 ISO film for C-41 processing, and feel free to push it up to 3200 ISO if needed!
The new boxed CineStill film has a longer shelf life, with fewer noticeable artifacts after expiration. However, for best results, store the film in a fridge and use it within 6 months of purchase. Exposed film should be processed promptly in C-41 chemistry to maintain colour fidelity and latent image latitude. All current productions of CineStill have a two-year expiration date printed on the box. If you have older productions of 800T (unboxed) or film without an expiration date, it may already be age fogged.
This emulsion was originally designed for ECN-2 motion picture processing, and it can still be processed using those steps or with the CineStill Cs2 "Cine Simplified" kit, which results in a low-contrast negative not suitable for darkroom printing. Although there’s no Remjet layer to affect the chemicals, C-41 processing produces better density and gamma for still photography. Tests have shown that C-41 processing yields favourable results compared to ECN-2 processing by professional labs. Long-term archival stability has not been tested beyond 9 years, but expectations should fall somewhere between Kodachrome and most C-41 films. We offer a replacement for any defective rolls but do not accept liability beyond this.
Load and unload the film in low light. Store unexposed film in a refrigerator at 13°C or lower, keeping it in its original packaging. To prevent moisture condensation, allow refrigerated film to return to room temperature before opening. Process the film as soon as possible after exposure. Protect processed film from strong light and store it in a cool, dry place.
