HARMAN Phoenix 125 is an experimental 35mm colour negative film with high contrast, strong visible grain and punchy, vibrant colours. It retains the distinctive personality of the original Phoenix 200 emulsion but carries a revised ISO 125 rating that reflects how photographers found the film performed at its best.
Phoenix 125 is intentionally different from a conventional colour negative film. Its pronounced grain, high contrast and unusual colour rendering produce unmistakably analogue photographs, while limited anti-halation protection can create striking halos around bright lights and reflections. Occasional coating anomalies may also contribute to the film's experimental appearance.
For the best results, HARMAN recommends shooting in consistent light and metering for the mid-tones to retain shadow and highlight detail. Accurate exposure is important, particularly in high-contrast scenes, and initial exposure bracketing can help establish the settings that suit your preferred look.
Phoenix 125 negatives do not have a conventional orange mask, so colours and contrast can vary according to the scanner and settings used. Adjusting standard scanning parameters or scanning as reversal film before digitally inverting the image can produce more controlled results. Push processing is not recommended.
Phoenix 125 is a deliberately characterful film for photographers who value creative possibilities over completely predictable colour. Its visible grain, strong contrast, vibrant palette and potential halation make it an exciting choice for distinctive street photography, portraits and experimental personal projects.
